Popular Fairfax School Board Member Ryan McElveen Stopping by Madison Prom

He accepted a 'promposal' via Twitter and plans to stop by the prom.

Everyone on Twitter knows how popular Fairfax County School Board Member Ryan McElveen is with students, especially on the night before potential snow days.

McElveen, who has 22,800 followers on Twitter, gets retweeted and tweeted at by students hoping for snow days and he often comes through with information about snow days before the official word comes down. He says it's all a way to keep in touch with students and get some dialogue going.

So it should come as no surprise that McElveen received a "promposal" from a high school student — from Vienna's Madison High School — via Twitter; he accepted. But instead of going to the prom as an actual date, he'll simply make an appearance, he told The Washington Post.

McElveen, 28 and married, scaled back the prom plans.

“After discussions with the student and administration, I figured my attendance would be more of a distraction and take away from students’ enjoyment of the event,” McElveen told The Post.

No doubt McElveen will be mobbed for "selfies" when he make his appearance.

What do you think of asking celebrities — local or national — to prom?
