Friday: Louise Archer Elementary School Plans 75th Anniversary Celebration

The school will be transformed into a historical museum, featuring artifacts dating back to the founding of the original Louise Archer Elementary.

Louise Archer Elementary School will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a focus on its history during an open house for the community on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Louise Archer Elementary is a Fairfax County public school.

The school will be transformed into a historical museum, featuring artifacts dating back to the founding of the original Louise Archer Elementary alongside new displays created by current students. Activities will include student-led tours throughout the building.

Louise Archer’s PTA is collecting $75 for 75 birthday donations, which will go toward two technology-based 75th anniversary gifts to the school: 32 laptops for a student mobile lab and eight SMARTBoard projector mounts. Details are available online.

Louise Reeves Archer was principal and teacher of grades 5-7 of the elementary school in Vienna from 1922 to 1948; her life’s work was to provide an education for African-American students. The school was built on its current site in 1939 and was renamed for her in 1950.

Louise Archer Elementary School is located at 324 Nutley Street N.W. in Vienna.
