The announcement of Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Jack Dale's retirement Sept. 22, just weeks before new school board members are elected, has prompted a number of questions from elected officials, teachers and the community. 


What qualities does Fairfax want in a new superintendent? What kinds of experience should the new superintendent have?  What issues are the most pressing to deal with now, before Dale's departure?  How will this affect elections? How can a new leader bring together the assorted constituent groups that make up a school system? How should the school board elicit community input on the new superintendent?
