Marshall High Wrestling Places Second In Districts
Nine Marshall wrestlers continue to regional championships; Madison wrestler named MVP
After an impressive 22-6 season, wrestling team finished second to Langley in the Liberty District Wrestling Championships on Saturday
Head Coach Jason Planakis was named Coach of the Year as nine statesmen wrestlers qualified for the Northern Region Championships this week.
Christian Valencia (106), James Cusack (120) and Matt Crawford (285) all won their weight classes, and Crawford's pin in the heavyweight final marked his 100th career high school win.

Jimbo Briody (126) and Sam White (195) each placed second in their classes.
Abel Tesfai (132), Tyler Snook (145), Greyson Smith (182)and Zack Brooks (220) each took third.

John Townshend (160) took fifth and Robert Gonzales (138) sixth in their divisions, falling short of regionals but still offering a solid performance.
Junior Thakur Kunal and Seniors Nick Knoke and Arthur Kapplow, in their final Statesmen matches, wrestled tough. Both Knoke and Kapplow battled through injuries throughout the season to help the team.
Madison High School's Robert Dooley, who won at 120, was given the Most Outstanding Wrestler award.

Madison - 134.5
Thomas Jefferson - 114
Stone Bridge - 100
McLean - 93
The Northern Region Championships begin Friday at Hayfield High School.
