Marshall Road Elementary Gives Back to Veterans

School partners with Vienna American Legion to donate money to the area's homeless veterans.

What began as a drive for Marshall Road Elementary School students to bring in "just $1" ended this week in a more than $500 donation to local military veterans.

The school recently partnered with Vienna's American Legion to raise a total of $532 to help homeless veterans in the DC metropolitan area, Eachus wrote to Patch.

The donation hit home in a number of ways — including for Assistant Principal Gary Hinson, a veteran himself, Eachus said.

The project was part of the school's "Big 10" campaign to complete 10 service projects this year.

Last year, the school completed 50 as part of its 50th anniversary.
