Marshall Wrestlers Finish Historic Season

Crawford's finish highest ever for a Marshall heavyweight, team earns 22-6 record overall

Marshall Senior Matt Crawford placed third in the heavyweight division of the 2012 Virginia State High School Wrestling Championships last Saturday at Robinson High School. 

Crawford won four matches including a two to one victory in his third place match against Yorktown's Charlie Wheldon. Crawford's only defeat was against two time State Champion DaQuinte Timbers from Freedom High School. Crawford's finish was the highest state finish ever for a Marshall Heavyweight.

Crawford's teammate, James Cusack, took eighth place in the State Championships at 113 pounds, despite competing with an injured shoulder.

Overall, Marshall finished the wrestling season with a 22-6 dual meet record, , , and with tournament victories at the Raider Classic, the Saints Holiday Classic and the Growing Earth Duals Spartan Slams.
