Photos: Wind Knocks Trees at VES

Fallen trees hit playground, miss classroom windows by a couple feet.

The severe weather expected late Tuesday across Northern Virginia has already made a mark in Vienna, knocking trees into the Vienna Elementary School playground that barely missed the building and classroom windows.

Terry Love, the school's library media specialist, said the trees fell around 9:30 a.m. this morning, blocking jungle gym equipment along with the door that leads from the back of the school onto the playground.

The trees missed the building and classroom windows by "a couple feet," Love said, coming the closest to the 6th grade classroom.

At this time, it doesn't appear as if there is any damage to the equipment or the grounds.

A crew from Fairfax County Public Schools is currently removing tree limbs and cleaning up debris.
