Black started at the school six years ago. She oversaw, among other things, the long-anticipated renovation and expansion of the historic school – often, community members say, with her own pink hard hat.

A meeting for parents is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight in the school library, to talk about the search and what the community wants in a candidate.

Dear Vienna Families,

Six years ago I began my journey as principal at Vienna Elementary School with excitement and great anticipation for the future. Our learning together and working together to support the achievement of our students has exceeded my expectations. During this time we have celebrated the accomplishments of individual students and teachers, mourned the loss of beloved members of our school community, supported each other through personal milestones, welcomed and bid farewell to students and staff, maintained our traditions while initiating new programs and practices, and rededicated our building following renovation. We moved forward together and consistently maintained our focus on the academic and social success of our students. Vienna Elementary School is truly a special place!

I want to thank you for the gift that this community has been to me, and to inform you that I have accepted an appointment as the Principal of Westlawn Elementary School beginning July 1, 2011.The time is right, both personally and professionally, to accept this new opportunity. As I walk down this path, I will carry fond memories of our relationship and work together.

Vienna Elementary School has a long history of celebrating the past while moving forward to the future. I am confident that VES will continue to be an exemplary place of learning within a supportive and caring community of teachers and parents.  No matter where my journey leads, a part of my heart will remain a Valiant Viking!

Warm Regards,
Jeanette M. Black
