Waldron Signs With Coastal Carolina

Marshall High School standout to continue lacrosse career for Division-I school next year

After a record-breaking junior season, Marshall High School girls lacrosse standout Rachel Waldron has decided to play Division I lacrosse in the Big South Conference for Coach Jaime Sellers at Coastal Carolina.

In 2011, Waldron, a captain, broke the school records for single game (8 goals), single season goals (68), and single season assists (27). Waldron also broke the all-time school records for goals with 130 (previous record held by Michelle Shield '96 with 126 goals), as well as all-time points with 170 (previous record held by Michelle Shield '96 with 160 points).

Waldron is also ranked No.1 on the all-time leader boards for assists (40) and caused turnovers (55). She was Marshall High School's2009 Rookie of the year, 2010 and 2011 Most Outstanding Athlete, and the 2011 Athlete of the Year. She was honored with first team All-Liberty District, first team all Northern Region and selected to the All-Liberty District and All-Northern Region Tournament teams. Waldron was also honored with All-Met Honors and was a member of the Championship Team for the Under Armour All-America Underclassman Games.

"It has been an honor to coach Rachel," Coach Depaz Clinton said. "She is a dynamic player and an inspirational captain. She works all year long to consistently improve her craft. Rachel is the catalyst that has taken this one-win program in 2007 to a 10-win program in 2011."

Waldron, also a senior starter this season , is the first lacrosse player to commit to a Division I lacrosse program since coach Clinton, a Marshall High School alumna from the class of 2003 (ODU/VT).

"You do not get the opportunity to coach an athlete like Rachel every day," Clinton said. "We are all very proud of her and excited for the great things she will do for the Chanticleers!
