Warhawks Win Season Opener Against Bulldogs

Madison girls basketball moves to 3-2, takes share of Liberty District lead

Madison opened Liberty District play Tuesday night with an impressive road win against the previously undefeated Stone Bridge Bulldogs, 59-41.

The victory improves Madison’s record to 3-2 and a share of first place in the Liberty District.

The Lady Warhawks started strong, taking an 8-point lead midway through the first half. But the Bulldogs fought back and by halftime had pulled within a point, 26-25.

Stone Bridge quickly opened a 3-point lead to start the second half, a challenge Madison met and battled, eventually taking an 11-point lead after three quarters to bring the score to 45-34. From there it was no stopping the Warhawks as they outscored the Bulldogs 14-7 in the fourth quarter.

Freshman forward Kelly Koshuta led a balanced Madison scoring attack with 22 points. Junior guards Megan Henshaw and Megan LeDuc also scored in double digits, notching 12 and 10 points respectively. Sophomore guard Katie
Kerrigan scored 9 points and senior guard Lindsay Joost scored 5 points in the Madison victory.

The leading scorers for Stone Bridge were sophomore forward Megan Della Penna with 13 points and junior guard Ashley Herndon with 12 points. No other Bulldog scored in double figures.
