Crew: Madison Girls Keep Win Streak Alive

s women’s first eight faced its toughest competition of the  season yet in a Saturday meet with some of the area’s top teams, but the boat defeated the National Cathedral School with a time of 5:03 to keep its winning streak alive.

Teams from St. Alban’s, National Cathedral School, Yorktown and TC Williams were among those competing Saturday at the Charlie Butt Regatta in Washington, D.C.

Racing on the chilly Potomac, the other Warhawk boats also had success: the  Madison women’s second eight (5:09) also beat National Cathedral School. In a competitive men’s first eight final, Madison (4:40) placed a strong third behind St. Alban’s and Yorktown. The men’s second eight also placed third behind St. Alban’s and Yorktown (4:43). In their first races ever on the Potomac, both the men’s and women’s third eight placed second behind Yorktown in their first races ever on the Potomac, with the women’s boat posting its fastest times of the season with a  time of 5:42. In an exhibition race, the women’s junior eight beat Yorktown.

Madison novices will compete next week at the Ted Phoenix Regatta on the Occoquan for the titles of best novice and freshman boats in the state. The Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships for the upper boats take place May 12.
