Football: Warhawks Finish Regular Season with Win
Madison High defeats crosstown rival Marshall in last game before playoffs
The Madison Warhawks ended their regular season on a high note Friday night, defeating crosstown rival Marshall Statesmen by a score of 34-14. The win raised Madison's overall record to 8-2 and Liberty District record to 6-1. The Warhawks are awaiting final word on their first playoff game, but it appears they will play South County at home Friday night.
On the first play of the game, Nate Williams took an end-around hand-off and sped down the sideline for a 63-yard touchdown run. Madison added two more scores on a short run by Jacob Hall and a 16-yard Mitch Goddard-to-Ben Sanford touchdown pass to take a 21-0 lead after one quarter.
The Statesmen scored their first touchdown when all-district running back, Kekoa Yamaguch, ran up the middle of the Warhawk defense for a 50-yard touchdown. Madison countered on a 20-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Dan Schwab and when Nick Dorka hit a 38-yard field goal, the Warhawks took a comfortable 31-6 lead into halftime.

Williams, Nick Hoy, Joe Koshuta, Hall, Marcus Pearson and Denzell Henderson teamed up for 244 yards on 29 carries. On defense, Madison forced 5 turnovers with Schwab, Hoy, and Shane Corridon recovering fumbles and Schwab adding an interception. Nathan Underhill, Jordan Durham and Tom Wagaman teamed up for 28 tackles. Dorka had a solid night kicking with 2 FGs, 4 PATs, and a 74-yard punt that was downed on the 1-yard line.
The Warhawks' first playoff game will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at Madison. Madison looks to avenge last season's playoff loss to the South County Stallions.
