“It’s a great opportunity for the seniors to play with and against kids that they’ve been playing against for years, there was a lot of good basketball played here today,” said Oakton Head Coach Fred Priester, who coached the Concorde/Patriot All-Stars team and has served as NVWBCA president for more than 20 years. “This gives them an opportunity to play one more time before their friends and family, and then they’re going to be moving on to college and for some of them their careers are over.”

The first game pitted a combination of Concorde and Patriot District All-Stars against the Loudoun County All-Stars; the second game featured All-Stars from a team that combined National and Liberty District players against the Prince William County All-Stars.

Madison Lacrosse Falls Twice In Weekend Tournament

The James Madison Warhawks hosted their annual two game Spring Break tournament at Oakton High School over the weekend. This year’s tournament featured some of the top team’s in the region, including Oakton, Chantilly and Brooke Pointe.

Madison followed up a tough 15-8 loss to Oakton Friday night with a 10-6 loss to Chantilly the very next day. Chantilly and Oakton both went undefeated in the tournament.

“Oakton put it to us pretty good Friday night, I think they just built an insurmountable lead early in the game that we were never able to overcome early,” Warhawks head coach Rich Hodge said reflecting on the tournament results.

Chantilly is 7-0 on the season and is currently ranked number one by Lax Power (laxpower.com) which ranks high school and college men’s and women’s lacrosse teams throughout the nation.

Warhawks goalie Matt Hayden played two great games, making plenty of saves but ultimately it wasn't enough to keep Chantilly and Oakton out of the net.

“I didn’t think the guys would respond well the next day but we followed that up with a great effort against Chantilly," Hodge said. "I’m not happy that we lost, but we were within four goals of the top team in the Northern Region.”

Madison fell to 3-3 on the season and will travel to McLean High School tommorow night.

Cruises to Victory Over Lake Braddock

The Warhawks hadn't taken the field in eight days, but they had no problem finding their groove on Saturday enroute to a 17-2 win over Lake Braddock on the first day of their Spring Break Tournament.

Madison notched 18 hits against the visiting Bruins in a 5-run game shortened by the tournament's slaughter rule.

EmJ Fogel got things started in the first inning by blasting a home run over the right field fence to lead off the game.  She later singled and doubled twice and had four RBIs.  Mary Bolinger also had a big day at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a single, double, and her first high school grand slam in the third.  Bolinger drove in seven runs on the day.  Kristyn Buscemi was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Michelle Mittel, Brittany Powers and Sam Brady each contributed two hits.  Erica Daul and Tori Lipnicky also contributed hits.  Lipnicky, Powers, and Daul also added an RBI.

Sam Brady pitched another good game, scattering five hits, striking out six and walking only one.
