Madison Boys Tennis Team Opens 2-2

Head Coach Glenn Adams enters his 10th season with the Warhawks.

With a total of 24 players, the James Madison High School Boys Tennis Team is one of the largest in the region. And with Head Coach Glenn Adams entering his 10th season with the Warhawks, the team also has the longest tenured varsity tennis head coach in the Liberty District.

But despite that depth and experience, senior co captains Dan Sablik and Ho Joon Choi are leading an unusually young team this spring:  their roster includes a combined 17 juniors and sophomores.

“I believe in having a large team because there is no JV tennis and there is no freshmen tennis so it’s the only way you can develop guys,” Adams said. “That way you can develop the younger players and by the time that they’ve reached their last years of high school they have plenty of experience.”

Sablik returns as the number one singles player and Choi moves up a notch from last year to be the No.2 for Madison. Sablik was part of a Warhawks doubles team that finished third in the region last year.

“We are still trying to figure out the best doubles partners, all three doubles teams will be new pairings this season," Adams said.

This season will be the first that VHSL rules allow three teams from each district tournament to qualify for regionals. Madison has finished third in the district for the last three years in a row behind Langley and Thomas Jefferson. The Colonials are the defending Northern Region champions.

Adams also added a new top assistant head coach this season, John Alexander.

“Its going to be an interesting year because we know Langley and Thomas Jefferson and McLean are all tough, and I think we’re tough too,” Adams said about the upcoming season.
