Madison Girls Lacrosse Finishes Undefeated Season

Madison's Sablik continues to stay among top tennis players in Liberty District

What should have been a quick bus ride to Westfield for the Madison High School girls lacrosse team turned into a commuting nightmare as they sat trapped on Route 66 early Tuesday evening.

Arriving only minutes before their last regular season game was scheduled to begin (and following a quick warm up) the Warhawks put their restless energy to work, defeating the Bulldogs 21-7. Madison ends the regular season with an 11-0 overall record; 7-0 in the Liberty District.

The early part of the game tested the undefeated Warhawks, as the Bulldogs clawed their way back from a 4-0 deficit to make it a 5-4 game midway through the first half. But Madison stepped up their game and enjoyed an offensive rally, which gave the Warhawks a comfortable lead at the half.  The second half was all Madison, as the Warhawks maintained offensive control and held off Bulldog scoring opportunities.

Madison Softball Wraps Up Regular Season

May 3: Warhawks lose to McLean 9-4 The Madison Warhawks traveled to McLean to take on the Highlanders in the teams' final meeting of the regular season.  The Warhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, but couldn't contain the offensive punch of the Highlanders as they fell by a score of 9-4.
Kristyn Buscemi had a great night at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double.  Michelle Mittel added two hits and an RBI.  EmJ Fogel went 1 for 2, driving in a run with a sacrifice fly, and also logged a stolen base.  Kat Olson went 1 for 3 with an RBI, and Ally Grassoand , Erica Daul had the Warhawks other hits.  Elizabeth Fallas and Kelsey Ross shared the mound duties, giving up 10 hits, striking out two, and issuing three walks.

April 30: Hylton takes a late game from Madison: In the third consecutive game against a team named the Bulldogs, the Madison Warhawks' late inning rally fell short as they fell to Hylton 8-5.  The Bulldogs came out on fire, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and increasing the lead to 7-0 after four innings.  Madison's bats finally came alive in the sixth as EmJ Fogel started things off with a solo home run.  In the last inning, the Warhawks added four more runs to cut Hylton's lead to three but the rally fell short.

April 30: Madison tops Westfield for the Spring Break Tournament Championship 8-7. After a loss to Stonebridge the night before, the Warhawks had to regroup and come back to prove that their bats are something to reckon with.  Both teams got off to a rocky start defensively, and the score was tied at 2 after the first inning was complete.  Westfield stretched the lead to 7-2 after three innings, aided by a 3-run home run from Frankie Martinez.  Madison cut the lead to 7-5 after five, which set the stage for some heroics in the sixth and final inning.
Michelle Mittel started off the inning with a walk, and Erica Daul followed with another to put runners on first and second with no outs.  Kat Olson then laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position with one out.  Westfield then decided to pitch to EmJ Fogel, who had gone 2 for 3 on the day up to that point.  That decision proved costly as Fogel sent a monster shot over the right field fence to give the Warhawks the lead.  Immediately after the celebration, the game's time limit expired and Fogel's walk-off home run proved to be the deciding factor as Madison won the exciting championship game by a score of 8-7.   Fogel ended up the offensive hero, going 3 for 4 with a single, double, and a home run and driving in three runs.  Tori Lipnicky also had a great day, going 2 for 2 with a walk.  Brittany Powers went 1 for 3 with a double, and Kristyn Buscemi and Ally Grasso each had a hit and an RBI.  Michelle Mittel provided the other hit for the Warhawks giving the team nine hits in the game. Elizabeth Fallas and Kelsey Ross split time on the mound, giving up eight hits, four walks, while striking out four.
