Marshall Girls Lacrosse Breaks Program Record

Madison Girls Lacrosse notches three wins in three days

With a 21-0 shut out against the Wakefield Warriors on Thursday night, the Marshall High School Girls Lacrosse team made Statesmen lacrosse history by securing eight wins in the regular season, a feat never accomplished in the history of the school's boys or girls lacrosse programs.

Coach Depaz Clinton also made the record books by becoming the most winning coach in Marshall Girls Lacrosse Program History, accumulating 15 wins in her two seasons as head coach, breaking Coach Frank DeLuca's Marshall record of 14-48. Coach DeLuca coached Nicholle Depaz Clinton while she played for the statesmen in 2003 and 2004.

The Statesmen have finished regular season play and are 8-3. They will face McLean High School May 6 in the first round of Liberty District playoffs.

Co-captains Hahn and Hahne and goalie Beeman were escorted by parents and family members to center field for a special ceremony, which highlighted their lacrosse careers and special team memories.  The seniors then joined team members to play their last home game on Madison's turf. Thirteen players scored for the win, keeping Madison's undefeated streak alive for the season.  Hahn was Madison's offensive leader with three assists and one goal.  Annie Tracz and Brie Hayden scored three goals each, while Megan Bisson had two goals and one assist. Dana Beden, Callie Headley, Melissa Kellan, and Katie Kerrigan contributed two goals a piece.  Alex Condon, Madison Renshaw, Julia Kehoe and Sam Babbit each had one goal and one assist.  Carly Frederick scored one goal, and Olivia Orr contributed an assist.

A match up against rival Oakton High School gave the Madison girls lacrosse team one of their most competitive games of the season on Wednesday night.  Still, the undefeated Warhawks prevailed 23-15.   The Warhawks were down 2-0 in the early minutes of the game, but senior co-captain Allison Hahn struck back quickly with two goals providing spark to a Madison rally. Momentum see-sawed back and forth as a result of Oakton's aggressive offensive play, but Madison continued to hold the edge (10-6) until weather conditions delayed the game with approximately 4:45 left on the clock.  The girls were able to resume play and the Warhawks finished the half with a 13-7 lead. In second-half action, Oakton continued to threaten with a more aggressive defense and solid offensive play.  Madison continued to strike at the goal, and win key draws to maintain offensive control.  Warhawk goalie Taylor Rivera-Silva also had critical saves, which totaled 19 for the game.

In another cross-town rival match Tuesday night, Madison came up with a win over the Marshall Statesmen, 20-9.The Statesmen came out strong on their home turf scoring the first goal.  The Warhawks answered, but Marshall continued to play a competitive first half where they led during the early stages of the game.  A Statesmen 3-2 lead would be their last of the game.  Madison pulled ahead 4-3, and built a comfortable 12-4 lead at the half.  In second-half action, Marshall had a small rally but could not fend off Madison's offensive game.   The final score was 20-9. Senior co-captain Allison Hahn hit five goals to lead the Warhawk's offense.  Alex Condon scored four goals, and Sam Babbitt added four assists.  Katie Kerrigan added another three goals, and Carly Frederick contributed two goals and one assist.  Dana Beden scored two goals, and Megan Bisson and Melissa Kellan added one goal and one assist each. Annie Tracz and Brieanne Hayden also scored one goal a piece.  Goalie Taylor Rivera-Silva had nine saves.
