Marshall Girls Lacrosse Makes History With Northern Region Playoff Win

Madison's Sablik to play in Northern Region Championships

The Marshall High School Girls Lacrosse team upset top Patriot District seed Woodson High School in a 12-11 win on Tuesday night.

Seven  statesmen added goals on the night: Katherine Van Winkle, Annie Greenwood, Allie Johnson, Kelly Brown, April Reinhart, Rachel Waldron and Jocelyn Golden.

Christine LaBarbara and Jessica Taylor led the defense with five ground balls and three caused turnovers a piece. Goalie Meredith Crizer had 5 saves on the night.

Marshall led the game 8-6 at halftime. They built their lead to 9 - 6 but Woodson's scrappy play brought the score to a 9 - 9 tie. 

The action was back and forth for the rest of the game with Golden and Van Winkle scoring goals 11 and 12.  Crizer had a huge save with just two minutes left in the game to protect the lead.  In the final two minutes the Statesmen were able to kill the clock with strong passing and balling handling.

The Statesmen are now 10-4 for the season and continue to the regional quarter finals at Chantilly on Thursday for a chance to move on to the regional semi-finals.

Madison's Sablik To Play In Northern Region Championship

Senior Dan Sablik, the Liberty District Boys Tennis Champion, played the "match of his life" Tuesday in a regional boys tennis singles semifinal over Lake Braddock's Ian Huang, the Patriot District Champion.

Sablik won 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 in an exceptionally well played match that took over three hours, coach Glenn Adams said.

Sablik plays again today in the Regional Singles and Doubles Championship.

Madison Girls Soccer Advances To Liberty District Semi-Finals

Madison girls soccer won 2-1 over Thomas Jefferson High School on Tuesday night.

Alice Craig scored two goals for the Warhawks: Once in the 25th minute on a header, and again in the 38th minute on a direct kick.

The Warhawks play Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Marshall High School against McLean High School
