Marshall Girls Basketball suffers tough loss to McLean

The Madison Warhawks employed a suffocating defense Tuesday night to shut down the Thomas Jefferson Colonials in a 60-22 Liberty District victory.

The Warhawks played their best defensive game of the season, holding the Colonials to its lowest scoring total of the season and giving up only eight points in the first half.  Madison capitalized on Colonial turnovers, ran a tight fast break  and scored from both long range and in the post. The Warhawks led at the end of the first half, 38-8.

The Warhawks continued its dominance in the second half and with the contest well in hand midway through the third period, turned the game over to its talented underclassmen.

With its 15th victory of the season, the Lady Warhawks retain sole possession of first place in the Liberty District at 10-1 and 15-4 overall.

Sophomore forward Care Shoaibi led the Thomas Jefferson Colonials with 5 points and 5 rebounds, while junior center Minh Bui contributed 5 points and 4 rebounds.

The Warhawks return home for a 7:30 p.m. match against Langley.

Despite a third-quarter comeback, the Marshall High School girls basketball team lost 41-33 Tuesday to the McLean Highlanders.

Marshall's April Reinhart led the scoring with 8 points. Rachel Waldron netted 7 and Annie Greenwood added 6.
