Scoreboard: Madison's Sablik Falls In Regional Championships

Madison girls softball takes a tough loss to Stone Bridge

Madison High School singles tennis player Dan Sablik lost to Herndon High School's Philip Nelson in the Northern Region Singles and Doubles Championship on Wednesday,  6-3, 6-1.

"Nelson's serving was incredible," Madison Coach Glenn Adams said. "He probably had about 15 service aces -- balls which the receiver doesn't even touch."

Adams said Nelson, this year's Concorde District Champion, was a semifinalist in last year's Virginia State Singles Championships.

Sablik will still head to the Virginia State Championships with Nelson, Adams said, since since both regional finalists qualify for the state quarterfinals.

"It's been a tremendous season for Dan," Adams said.

The Virginia State Singles Championship quarterfinals are scheduled for 9 a.m. on June 9 at Jefferson District Park.
