Scoreboard: Warhawks Slip By Langley

A roundup of Madison, Marshall sports team scores

The Madison High School softball team (8-3) returned from spring break Tuesday to knock out a 5-4 victory over Langley High School in an important Liberty District matchup.

It was clear from the outset the Warhawk players spent some time away from the softball field, as they dug themselves an early hole, trailing 4 to 1 after three innings of play. The defense committed three errors and gave up two unearned runs before settling down to secure a victory in the 9th inning using the International Tie Breaker procedure.

Madison's Kelsey Ross started on the mound and went five innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs while striking out three. She also intentionally walked a Saxon batter.  Elizabeth Fallas came on to pitch the final four innings for the win, giving up three hits, striking out two and issuing one walk.

Tori Lipnicky was the offensive star of the game, going 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs.  Ross (2 for 5, RBI) and Fallas (2 for 3, BB) each contributed 2 hits with Ross driving in the go ahead run in the 9th.  Kat Olson (1 for 3, BB) and Brittany Powers (1 for 3, BB) added Madison's other hits on the night.

Next up for the Warhawks is a Friday road game against the McLean Highlanders.
