Softball: Madison Beats Mt. Vernon

Warhawks prepare for Friday night game against cross-town rival Marshall High

The Madison High School Softball team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 4-1 victory over Mt. Vernon on Thursday.

The game was part of the Majors' 2012 Spring Tournament.

Despite the win, the Warhwaks offense never seemed to get going, as Madison managed only seven scattered hits throughout the game.  Tori Lipnicky (2 RBIs), Elizabeth Fallas and Kelsey Ross each went 2 for 3 to lead the attack, with Fallas hitting a double and a triple and Ross contributing a triple. Kristyn Buscemi and Jackie Yahner each contributed an RBI to round out the scoring.

Ross started the game in the circle and earned the win, giving up one hit and striking out two in 4 innings of work.  Fallas pitched the final 3 innings, also giving up only one hit while striking out four.  Mt. Vernon's lone run was unearned.

Madison continues its busy week with their Liberty District home opener against cross-town rival Marshall on Friday night, then travels to Westfield on Saturday to play two games in Westfield's spring tournament.
