Virginia Crew: Madison Women Earn National Championship

Five total Vienna boats from Madison High qualified for the Scholastic Rowing Association of America's National Championships.

The Madison Crew Team's Women's First Eight continued its undefeated season by capturing first place at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America’s National Championships this past weekend in Camden, NJ, with a late race sprint to power past Saratoga Springs (NY).  

In a day of very fast and windy racing, Madison's women's second eight took fourth place, and the men's freshmen eight took fifth place in the nation. 

Madison was able to qualify a total of five boats for the Nationals, including the men's first adn second eights, all of whom advanced to at least the semifinal round in the best showing for Madison men's and women's boats in team history.

The SRAA capped off what has been an outstanding season for Madison rowing with  gold and  silver medals at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta as well as state championships for the Women’s First and Second Eights;  a state championship for the Men's Freshmen Eight, a silver medal for the Men's First Eight at states, a bronze medal for the Men's Second Eight at states, and fifth place finishes at states for the Women's Freshmen Eight, Women's Junior Eight, and the Men's Third Varsity Eight.
