Virginia Lacrosse: Madison Boys, Girls Advance to State Semifinals

With wins Saturday in the quarterfinals, Warhawks keep championship dreams alive.

On a sizzling Saturday night, the Madison girls and boys lacrosse teams continued their tear through post season play, with decisive home turf wins in the Virginia State Tournament quarter finals. 

In the first game, the Madison High School girls lacrosse team (17-1) staked an 11-1 lead over visiting Salem High School (15-4) and never looked back. 

With smooth transition offense and precision passing, Madison cruised to a 23-9 victory.

The entire team saw  action, with 10 girls contributing to the relentless  scoring attack.  Madison was lead by Kierra Sweeney (4 goals, 2 assists) and Sam Babbitt (4 goals). Other multiple goal scorers included Alex Condon (3 goals, 4 assists), Carly Frederick (3 goals, 3 assists), Melissa Kellan (2 goals, 3 assists), Erin Callahan (2 goals, 2 assists), Katie Kerrigan (2 goals, 2 assists) and Ellie Bentley (2 goals).  Emily Bradner added a goal and Emily Burke chipped in 2 assists.  Sigourney Heerink was the winning goalie.  

In the boys game, the Warhawks (17-5) broke open a close game with a barrage of goals midway through the 4th quarter and took  a 11-7 victory over E. C Glass High School (14-6).

Both teams advance to the State Tournament Semi-Finals at Westfield High School.  The girls team faces Osbourn Park High School at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Madison boys face Dominion High School at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Virginia State Championship games will be played at Westfield next Saturday.
