Virginia Lacrosse: Madison Boys, Girls Move On in Northern Region Playoffs

Warhawks posted wins Tuesday night, setting both teams up for quarter final appearances Thursday.

The Liberty District champion Madison Boys and Girls lacrosse teams continued to roll through area competition Tuesday, sweeping opponents in the first round of the Northern Region Playoffs to stay alive in the tournament.

Just a few days after earning Liberty District crowns against Langley on the Saxons' home turf, the Madison girls and boys lacrosse teams returned home Tuesday as No. 1 seeds in the first round of the Northern Virginia Region Tournament.

Looking very comfortable back on Warhawk territory, both teams cruised to lopsided victories.

In the first game of the double-header, the girls team over-powered Edison 24-4.  

A total of 14 Warhawks netted goals in the even-scoring effort. Lucy Davidson and Kierra Sweeney led all scorers with 3 goals a piece. Paige Karp, Melissa Kellan, Katie Kerrigan, Erin Callahan and Alex Condon each scored two goals. Sigourney Heerink had five saves.

In the second game of the evening, the boys dominated Mount Vernon in a 20-2 win.

In quarter final matchups Thursday, both Warhawk teams will maintain home field advantage. The girls will play at 5 p.m. against Centreville and the boys will take the field at 7 p.m. against Woodson.
