Virginia Lacrosse: Madison Boys Top Langley for Liberty District TItle

Girls game postponed until 6 p.m. Saturday after lightning delays the 2013 Girls Lacrosse Liberty District Championship.

On Friday night, the Madison High School boys lacrosse team did something it hadn't done in years: post a win against  the Langley Saxons.

The Warhawks defeated Langley 10-2 on the Saxons' home turf on Friday night, taking the Liberty District Championship and entering next week's tournament as a top seed.

Madison and Langley — five-time district champs — both stood at 11-5 (6-1) entering last night's title game, tied with Stone Bridge (11-3, 6-1) for best record in the district.

The Warhawks got off to a fast start, according to early game information from dmvlacrosse. Madison led 5-0 after the first quarter. By the third, the score was 7-1; the Saxons couldn't recover in the fourth for a win.

Despite the loss, Langley will enter as the No.2 Liberty seed in next week's Northern Region tournament. The Saxons will play National District's No. 3 Washington&Lee at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home. Meanwhile, the Warhawks enter the tournament as a top seed and face National District's No. 4 Mount Vernon at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home.

Several games were postponed Friday because of lightning or rain, including the match between the Madison and Langley girls lacrosse team.

After 16 minutes of play, the Warhawk-Saxons girls matchup was stopped for lightning, a pause that turned into a delay of game.

Madison was leading 9-8 when the game was stopped; the teams will continue their game at 6 p.m. Saturday at Langley.

Northern Region brackets for both boys and girls may change over the next few days, as stopped games are completed and schedules are realigned.
