Warhawks Fall To Stone Bridge In District Showdown

Despite loss, Madison football still has chance at share of Liberty District title

A Madison High School fourth quarter rally put the Warhawks within eight points of the lead in Friday night's game against Stone Bridge, but the Bulldogs ran away with the game after a late touchdown of their own to win 35-20.

The win put the Bulldogs (6-0, 8-1 overall) at the top of the Liberty District, a spot they and the Warhawks(5-1, 6-3 overall) shared entering Friday night's game.

Madison's Chris English scored with three minutes left to play in the fourth quarter, cutting the score to 28-20 after Stone Bridge blocked the Warhawk field goal attempt. The Warhawks tried an on-sidekick that failed, opening the gate for Stonebridge to score a final touchdown.

The Warhawks still have a chance at a share of the district title. Stone Bridge travels to Fairfax High School next Friday; a loss in that game -- and a Warhawk win over crosstown rival Marshall on the same date -- would put both teams at 6-1 in the district.

Madison has the home field advantage in next Friday's matchup, welcoming the Statesmen for a 7:30 p.m. game.
