Caribou Coffee Now Open

New Maple Avenue shop runs free drink contest, features drive-thru

Vienna residents have another option for coffee in town with the opening of Caribou Coffee on Maple Avenue.

The new coffee house, located in the former KFC space at 332 Maple Avenue East, will feature a sitdown shop inside, along with a drive-thru for customers who want coffee on the run.

The location opening kicks off an expected 10 to 12 percent increase in shops through the end of the year. The company currently has 585 locations around the world.

"Joining a vibrant community like Vienna, where fans may not have had a
chance yet to sample the differentiated Caribou experience, feels like a great place to start," said Alfredo Martel, senior vice president of marketing and
product management, in a statement Wednesday.

The store says some of its décor will be inspired by the town, including a theatrical, Vienna-themed community table and “Grand Poobah” chair.

Customers can also win free drinks in the company's first-ever “Tweet-to-Win Free Drinks For a Year Sweepstakes" by using the hashtag #CaribouVienna through July 13.

Five “Tweet-to-Win Free Drinks For a Year Sweepstakes" will be announced at the store's official grand opening on July 14.

Has anyone ever counted the number of places to get a cup of coffee in Vienna - don't leave out places like Whole Foods and gasoline stations?

It's on the wrong side of the road for a coffee shop ... making a left turn out of there during morning rush hour will be a beast.

True. That's the first thought I had when I saw it going up, that it's going to be a bear if commuters want to cross over (and then back again) making a left during rush hour. But it's nice that something is moving in there rather than an empty store, which we don't need more of those.

Depending on what you consider Vienna (the Town or the zip code), but in Town's central area, there's two Starbucks, Jammin Java, and I'd estimate another 6 in gas stations/grocery stores. Of course, Jammin Java and the gas/grocery locations aren't solely coffee, and aren't that crowded in the mornings. Based on the line at the Starbucks (by Chipotle), there's enough demand for another option, and since some folks don't like Starbucks, I'm guessing Caribou will be successful (unless their location on the opposite side of AM rush becomes too big of a negative).

I still think Cafe Amouri is the best of everything with its excellent tea and coffee, super staff, terrific community service outreach and support, and cozy atmosphere. I like supporting a locally owned shop instead if a chain, too.

You can make a right out of the drive-thru and then circle back around to Maple by using Glyndon and Church.

There's also Caffe Amouri, Cafe Nemooneh and Dunkin Donuts.

And on second thought, technically you can get coffee at the two McDonald's and the Wendys, as well as Fresh Market.

I agree. I prefer to support local owners.

The Soundry! Then walk through their fun back areas.

There's also the place on Maple & Park with Gelato, Crepes and Coffee. (I forget the name, but it's a fun place. sorry!)

Has Caribou offered any coupons for their opening yet?

I wnt on Sunday morning and asked for a medium coffee. I was asked if I wanted the Eithopian lift roast or the Mahogany medium. I said neither, just your regular blend (which I'm a big fan of). Was told thy didn't brew that today...just for the speciality drinks. Really? I tried the light roast which honestly tasted like Starbucks (not a fan). Very disappointed. What other chains, of anything, don't carry their signature items EVERY single time you go?

Hmm, I don't know how I missed Car. Cof. going in... what happened to the KFC?! That Caffe Amouri is extremely expensive... I can't even afford Starbuck's anyway. I think the best coffee for the value is actually McDonald's!!
