Temperatures in Vienna will hit 95 degrees on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, as thunderstorms -- some of them described as severe -- threaten to delay or postpone area firework shows.
"Hazy, hot and humid" is how the Capital Weather Gang describes expected weather on the July 4th holiday. The combination of heat and humidity will create a heat index in excess of 100 degrees, the NWS report stated.
There is a 40 percent chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Some of the storms may be severe, according to the NWS.
In the event of a severe weather occurence, the Town of Vienna has set aside July 5 as an alternate day for the firework shows.
The Town will also post information on its website.
For the rest of the week — Thursday, Friday and Saturday — the days may be even hotter, hitting 98 degrees. Beginning Sunday, the Northern Virginia area will see slightly cooler temperatures with a high on Sunday of 94 degrees and a high on Monday of "just" 89 degrees.
