The Town of Vienna on behalf of the Maple Avenue Vision Steering Committee will be hosting a Community Forum on Wednesday, May 29, at 7 pm in the Town Hall at 127 Center Street South.

The Town’s consulting team led by Elisabeth Lardner of Lardner/Klein will present an overview of the work completed to date, as well as answer questions and receive public feedback on the efforts to date. In addition, representatives from the Maple Avenue Vision Steering Committee and Town staff will be attending.

Doug Noble, Chair of the Maple Avenue Vision Steering Committee said, “The goal of the Maple Avenue Vision Process is to allow the Town of Vienna to control the direction of the inevitable changes that are on the way so that we can protect and enhance Vienna’s unique character and family-oriented sense of community.  In so doing, we want to strengthen the business environment, support local businesses and protect neighborhoods as well as encourage the sustainable development of Maple Avenue in a way that makes it safer and more walkable.  This is the first step of the process to examine our 50-year-old zoning code along Maple Avenue and see how it might be adjusted to achieve these goals in today’s world – where rapid growth and large development is happening all around us.”

In 2012, the Town Council hired Lardner/Klein Landscape Architects in association with Clarion Associates and Seth Harry & Associates, to make recommendations regarding potential zoning changes that would help to implement the Town’s vision for the Maple Avenue corridor. A Steering Committee, comprised of 14 members with different perspectives from throughout the community, was created to work with the Town’s consultants to provide review and guidance to the process as well as contribute a public voice to the effort.

All members of the Vienna community are encouraged to attend and participate. For more information on the Maple Avenue Vision Process, please contact the Department of Planning & Zoning at (703) 255-6341 or see www.viennava.gov
