Video: Sam Savia Honored For More Than 70 Years Of Service
Ceremony held Monday for lifetime VVFD member
There are many people that keep the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department running each day – but none of them are quite like Sam Savia.
Savia has been volunteering at the department for more than 70 years. On Monday night, friends, family and the community honored Savia in a ceremony at the firehouse.
"[It is] a remarkable milestone that few career or volunteer fire department personnel will ever attain and a first for any member of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department," the department said.

Several local officials came out to thank Savia personally, including members of the Vienna Town Council, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chair Sharon Bulova and Hunter Mill District Sup. Catherine Hudgins.
During the ceremony, VVFD Chief John Morrison also dedicated the building's bay to Savia.
