Wu's Closes Wednesday, Handcrafters' Guild Show, Wounded Warrior 5K, Vienna Business Saturday

Government holiday schedule and happenings this week in Vienna.

Here's a look at what's on tap this week in Vienna. Have a great week!

  • Wu's Garden Restaurant Closing: A family favorite restaurant will close its doors for good Wednesday night, Thanksgiving Eve, in Vienna. Wu's Garden Restaurant, run by the Wu family, taking care of Vienna diners for 39 years, will end its reign as a favored eatery. Stop by for some Kung Pao Chicken before it's all over.
  • Town of Vienna Thanksgiving Schedule: The Town of Vienna offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Refuse will not be collected on Thursday; however, both Thursday and Friday refuse routes will be collected on Friday. Please note that only trash and recycling will be collected; no bulk items or brush materials will be picked up on Friday. Public safety services will not be impacted.
  • The Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St. SE, will be closed Thursday. The Community Center will be open to the public Friday through Sunday, Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. During this time, no classes or drop-in programs will be held; however, the Vienna Community Center will host the Northern Virginia Handcrafters' Guild Arts and Craft Show Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
  • The Northern Virginia Handcrafters' Guild Arts and Craft Show: Running for more than 30 years, the show features more than 80 juried artisans offering original, handmade arts and crafts, including decorative painting, fused, etched, painted and stained glass, ceramics and pottery, hand-painted silk, woodworking handweaving, photography, paintings and drawings,clothing and functional textiles, jewelry and much more. All of the artists and artisans will be on hand to answer questions and talk about their work. Admission is $3; parking is free.
  • Wounded Warrior 5K: On Thursday, from approximately 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., several roads will be closed to accommodate the 2013 Wounded Warrior 5K, according to the Town of Vienna, including: Ayrhill Avenue NW from Mill Street NE to Center Street N and Center Street N from Ayrhill Avenue NW to Mill Street NE. A majority of this race will occur along the W&OD Trail between Ayrhill Avenue and Hunter Mill Road. Trail users will experience higher than normal usage on Thursday, between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
  • Vienna Business Saturday (Saturday, Nov. 30): Vienna's twist on Small Business Saturday, when local merchants encourage the community to "Shop Vienna." Look for special deals offered by Vienna businesses.

Church Street Stroll (Monday, Dec. 2, 6-9 p.m.): This is a great holiday celebration on Church Street! The street is closed and we have carolers, stage entertainment, a petting zoo, hot chocolate, toasted marshmallows, and Santa on the antique fire truck.  Lots of businesses stay open late. First Night Vienna (Dec. 31, 7 p.m.-midnight):  A family-friendly, alcohol-free New Year's Eve event on Church Street filled with music and entertainment at four different venues, a variety of food trucks and activities for kids.
