Contemporary Folk Artist Steven Gellman CD Release Party at Jammin' Java

Special show with former band, guests is Sunday.

Contemporary folk tunesmith Steven Gellman celebrates the release of his new album "Revisited" with a concert Sunday at Jammin' Java. Tickets are available for $15 in advance or $18 at the door. The all-ages show begins at 7 p.m.

With a voice to match John Denver and songs hailed by Billboard Magazine as “essential for fans of sensitive acoustic music,” Gellman has performed his heartfelt lyrics to audiences across the United States since the mid '90s. Now, Gellman revisits some of his most personal and revealing songs at a concert to celebrate "Revisited," his sixth indie release.

The retrospective evening will feature the reunion of folk-rock trio Diamond Rose — Gellman’s original band founded in 1992 — as well as musical guests including Doris Justis of Side by Side and Margaret Wolfe of the former Venus Rising.

The concert also marks the start of a three-albums-in-three-years project. “Revisited is a bookend and a springboard,” says Gellman. “For me, it’s an opportunity to look back and pay personal tribute to many of the songs that have meant so much to me over the years. It’s also an opportunity to look forward to new projects and a new sound.”

Gellman will release a holiday album in 2014 and a collection of original folk-rock songs in 2015.

Gellman broke onto the folk music scene in 1997, garnering critical acclaim for "Photobook" with a sound that Billboard Magazine compared to the Indigo Girls. Since then, he has continued his hallmark approach of capturing story in song through a string of indie releases. Gellman has been nominated as Best Contemporary Folk Vocalist in the Washington Area Music Association's awards for the past three years and his last album "Peaceful World" was up for Best Contemporary Folk Album.

Gellman has performed at premier music venues including The Birchmere in Alexandria and The Blue Bird Café in Nashville and has had the honor to open shows for Dar Williams and Richie Havens among others.
