Most Virginia companies who contract with the state are SWaMs anyway. Men just put their companiesRead More in their wives' names. This sort of requirement, however, when their are limited SWaMs does inevitably raise prices for the taxpayer because of less competition.

So the state government shows us that being prejudiced is OK for them using gender, racist by raceRead More and by the size of company but you can not call your football team the Redskins! If anyone posting here is truly interested in a solution, tell Congress to fund the fix required byRead More its 2002/2008 law. Great more toll lanes that no one can afford to use. I personally am happy he's looking into this. One of these days, you are going to see that yourRead More "emotional state" is up for sale. If we don't get a handle on the NSA, Facebook, companies that collect our data and sell it, we are going to one day be denied insurance based on our emotional state and may have our children taken from us. You may think that's a good thing, until you discover that software can get it "wrong" and that it's just one more injustice that can happen. We also need to call out companies that make people "sign" something and later claim they gave it to you. The terms of condition are cloudier than a day in North Carolina during hurricane season. I have had more than one thing appear on my credit card that I didn't believe I "agreed" to buy.

New Georgia law getting slow drivers out of the fast lane. What do you think? Patch file.
Danny Donahue July 6, 2014 at 11:28 am
Hmmmmm, State engineers study traffic patterns and determine that 55, 65, or whatever is the best,Read More safest speed for a stretch of road. So, VDOT puts up a sign that says SPEED LIMIT 55mph. The police routinely sit on the side of this stretch of road and allow cars to pass by at rates up to 80mph without ticketing those drivers who are, under Virginia law, committing a Reckless Driving offense by driving more than 20mph over the posted speed limit. And now we are talking about ticketing people driving at, or even 10-15mph over, the posted speed limit because other people want to drive recklessly... And that line of logic ladies and gentlemen, is why the Commonwealth is in the shape it is right now!!!
kat frandanisa July 8, 2014 at 09:53 am
OK, so if you won't move over because you think others are driving too fast or you won't move overRead More because YOU think the laws are above you, how about moving over out of common consideration for the other guy on the road. Maybe that guy isn't just a jerk who's in a hurry; maybe he has had an emergency and needs to get somewhere fast. Regardless of the reason, the courteous thing to do is get out of the way. And while we're talking inconsiderate drivers, why not pull up closer to the car in front of you at a traffic light; is there really a reason to give 2 or more car lengths between? Have you ever thought about the person behind you that is trying to get through that light? Oh, we could go on & on . . .
Vincent Careatti July 8, 2014 at 11:26 am
Kat the answer to ur ? Re car lengths is simple: they're texting and have no idea what's going onRead More around them. I could give out a minimum of 3 citations for texting at any traffic signal. The best one was on I66 going 70 mph (ok yes I'm breaking the law ) Maryland driver going even faster was texting with his left hand and steering with his right . If you ask the cops the answer is "we can't be everywhere" but my question is exactly where are the cops? We always read about weekends devoted to enforcement. Isn't this a part of their full time job? Where are the stats? I've pleaded with VDOT to use the variable message boards to get the word out about all sorts of traffic laws: texting, seat belts, windshield wipers, headlights, new bike laws, all for naught. Jan the VDOT in house mouth organ "too much information will distract the driver" DAH! Like 7 minutes to downtown or construction in Rosslyn are really helpful messages. I don't know how you clean out the entrenched plastic pocket protector crowd but if I ever ran for governor that would be my only platform

Who said anything about a woman? You are obviously trying to start crap lol. Nice try though.Read More Newsflash - we have male teachers and male nurses in 2014... back to what you said about an armed citizen not being able to pull the trigger - my thoughts exactly. A kid is shooting up the school and an armed citizen just might not be able to look at the child and shoot them. Our society doesnt look at children as target practice, so when presented with a child with a gun, I dont buy that the average citizen would shoot a child. So what I get from this back and forth is that you folks have opinions that go back and forth however you like to make a point and then you also like to start crap either that or you cant read. Teachers who cant read.... interesting.

Bicycles are as much part of the problem. Like on Virginia Ave in Falls Church where there is a bikeRead More path yet they still choose to ride in the middle of the driving lane instead of using the path.
Fairfax Resident June 29, 2014 at 03:38 pm
The reason that many cyclists take a lane instead of riding on the bike path is safety. CyclistsRead More traveling betwen 20 and 30 mph are safer on roads than on bike paths populated with families out for a walk or people walking their dogs.
Shelly July 2, 2014 at 07:13 am
Isn't there also a law that says a vehicle that travels 10 or more miles per hour under the postedRead More speed limit it is impeding traffic? If bicycles are considered vehicles and they are utilizing the public public road, then shouldn't their speed be no less than 10 miles under the posted MPH in order to maintain traffic flow since we can no longer pass them?

I wonder when this Governor will do something positive for all Virginians. All I've seen him do soRead More far is political activism, i.e., this parade and wanting all of us to pay more taxes for Medicaid. Will he also ignore Virginia when he once again becomes a Clinton fundraiser? So sad.

I am proud of Gov. McAuliffe for this proclamation. I am shocked that this is the first time we'veRead More ever had an official proclamation for Pride Month.
