FREE SPEECH, our 1st AMENDMENT RIGHT is a Constitutional right earned by our Fore Fathers and ForeRead More Mothers and relinquished to All Americans. To bad Benicia Patch doesn't feel this way. I'M APPALLED AT HOW THEY CENSORED and BANNED THE BLACK PANTHER OF POETRY FROM SPEAKING ON THIS RAG!!! "If the specter of whistle-bearing block captains roaming the streets dressed in (reflective?) white sheets is a cure worse than the illness, residents have little recourse. Courts have consistently recognized the KKK’s right to free speech".
Saber Walsh April 24, 2014 at 01:41 pm
I think this is an obvious false flag. We have an entire ideologically-driven group trying to takeRead More over our government and that is trying to spur ANY reason and ANY evidence, real or not, that there is a "racial divide" in our country. This is total BS.

Lyle Lanley -- Don't project your own sick sex fantasies on someone defending his own home fromRead More chronic criminal invaders. Whether he over-reacted from highly understandable frustration is debatable, but for this tragedy to make you think of sex says more about you than you realize.

When asked exactly what she has accomplished during her stint as a carpetbagger Senator & ourRead More least "carbon neutral" Secretary of State, Madame Clinton responded "what difference, at this point, does it make?" That was after she was fired from the Watergate investigation for lying, and after she attacked every woman who was sexually assaulted by her philandering husband, and after she whispered into Sean Smith's & Ty Wood's parents' ears "don't worry, I'll personally make sure we arrest the man responsible for that despicable video." I'm sure I'll be called a "war on women" hating misogynist by the Libiots too enraged to notice I'm a woman & who are so intellectually dishonest they refuse to admit the real misogynist is Bill CLinton. But hey, as long as the boot licking Main Stream Media still drools over Killary, what difference does it make?
Michael Hipp April 24, 2014 at 01:34 pm
Hey Amy RLB, whatever that means, why are you talking about all .. what did you call them.....Read More libiots..... when there is only one person in this entire discussion that called anybody a woman hater? Do you have a problem with dealing with this single discussion thread, must you broaden the discussion to everybody? All libiots aren't here to defend themselves. The one person that call you republicant's woman haters is here and can defend their remarks. Just a thought.

this "to me" is not funny, the swat teams are used for serious issues, hostage taking,Read More etc. to have a swat team called to a home behind a video game is stupid, these swat members are trained to save lives, etc. to be called to a home behind a video game is not funny, what happens if a REAL call comes in and swat is needed there, I hope they catch the idiot that called swat and he gets what he/she deserves

Taxes are going up for homeowners in Fairfax County with the 2015 budget. Patch file photo.
Jake Burke April 23, 2014 at 05:02 pm
Michael, while I agree with you that we should try to vote these tax & spend pols out of office,Read More I fear that there are now to many liberal wackcos here, many who poured in from Maryland, for us to be successful. But, we have to try.

Oh Jim...you sound as if you've never bought or sold a house before. As a little life lesson, mostRead More people don't put their house on the market in the winter. Tell me Jim, did you just happen to remember something I posted from 6 months ago or did you go back and read every post I've ever made?...kinda creepy, wouldn't you say? Maybe you had a little "helper" clue you in (you know one of those people who make it a point to catalog individual poster's comments that don't agree with the socialist agenda)(Patch employees, wink, wink!) Either way, my reasons for moving are numerous. However, with your willingness to out yourself as a traitor to the greatest document for personal freedom and liberty that has ever been written by man, I have decide to reflect on whether it is in my country's best interest to cede more ground to people like you by removing my vote from this county (at least until after the November elections!)...so, I'll let you know, ok?...by the way, I called it from the start, didn't I? You are a transplant from New York (by way of your Boston heritage, right?) who left an over-taxed, over-regulated, nanny-state to come here and vote in the same policies that decimated the place you fled.....liberals, buy 'em book, send 'em to school, and still can't teach 'em a thing.
Jim Daniels April 24, 2014 at 12:28 pm
The internet is forever Kim, if you want your views kept secret best not to post them on a publicRead More website :)....you are right I am a transplant from New York...I moved away from there when I was 1 year old...then moved from place to place as my father was transferred...finally ended up in a nice blue state in the Midwest! Never lived in Boston...but I was conceived there (was that TMI? :) )Came here for school, found what I liked in beautiful Fairfax County ...as I said top notch standard of living and have been here ever since. Oh...btw yes I have sold houses here in Fairfax County...three times as a matter of fact...once in January...took three days! But now that spring has sprung we can all look forward to standing at the border between here and whichever county you decide to go to...waving you a fond farewell!!! So you aren't going to vote? Great news...usually I encourage people to vote no matter who they vote for...but for you I'll make an exception... Why do you hate America so much Kim?

FREE SPEECH, our 1st AMENDMENT RIGHT is a Constitutional right and a integral part of who we are asRead More a NATION. Earned by our Fore Fathers and Fore Mothers and relinquished to All Americans. To bad Benicia Patch doesn't feel this way. I'M APPALLED AT HOW THEY CENSORED and BANNED THE BLACK PANTHER OF POETRY FROM SPEAKING ON THIS RAG!!! @Charles Taite - As one of the commentators responding to and to whom Black Panther of PoetryRead More responded I happen to agree with you. I don't know whether Patch removed him or whether he did so himself. I for one did not flag any of his comments as offensive regardless of my personal dislike of some of the comments he made. If Patch did so shame on Patch. P.S. As much as I have issues with what he wrote he is no where close to the KKK for bigotry or racist beliefs or talk but your point is well taken.
Fairfax kids could get more sleep under proposal.
CS April 23, 2014 at 02:15 pm
Instead of trying to be your kids best friend, get them to bed earlier! I go to bed at around 930pmRead More when I can so that I can get enough sleep to wake up at 530am to get to work by 7am! That's life! Not sure how this helps them prepare for real life where employers don't care about how much sleep you got the night before! This argument is really absurd and a waste of time.
Lisa Ross April 23, 2014 at 04:11 pm
Convict and CS, you obviously think most parents are neglectful. They are not. And my teens are inRead More bed at 9 pm every night with no electronics. But in order to get 9 hours of sleep and still wake at 5:30 am, they would have to be in bed AND asleep at 8:30 pm. NO teen can fall asleep that early -or even at 9 or 9:30 pm. Teen biology is DIFFERENT than adult and child biology -THAT is the issue. Their melatonin does not turn on till about 10 or 11 pm and they are not alert until about 8 -9 am. Just ask any HS teacher about their first period class. That is why this is a problem -not because parents just let their teens stay up till all hour. Adults can also choose where to live and which jobs to take. So for example, I would never take a job that starts at 7 am. But FCPS kids have no choice when they have to get up and research shows they sleep is every bit as important as food for physical and mental health. For teens, it's also even more important than for adults like you two since teens are still growing. Besides the period between 0 -2 years of age, I bet the teen years are the biggest growth period for body and brain development. This issue matters.
CS April 23, 2014 at 06:07 pm
Thank you for your input, Lisa. I raised my kids and also was a kid myself. I understand how puttingRead More kids to bed earlier allows them more sleep. Not sure our biological makeup changed much since I was a kid or my children were going to school. As far as kids not being able to fall asleep? My kids had no problem because they led active lives during the day. Sleep was welcomed by bedtime. Also, you would have to be naïve to believe that many parents give their child a reasonable bedtime or a bedtime at all for that matter. I'm quite sure many parents have no idea how late their kids stay up. You are obviously an exception. It's also silly to think that kids are not going to stay up later because of this. So, all of this effort will be for naught. It hasn't impaired the growth and learning of kids thus far. Not sure I've met anyone who has been a failure because their school start at 720 instead of 820. As far as my job being a choice? Wow! Would be nice to have the luxury of choice when it comes to decent employment. I envy you for that!
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.

Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess theRead More nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup! Sorry, Autistic boy, but there are a multitude of crimes here. These so called 'friends' abused youRead More terribly ~ called 'bullying', & that alone cannot be tolerated. Then, there is animal cruelty involved, another terrible crime, plus, harassment of all kinds, leudness, & who knows what else.
