The oldest continually operating school in Fairfax County, Vienna Elementary School is located in center of the town…More of Vienna. It offers programs for preschool, kindergarten and grades one through six.
There are a number of academic programs supported at the school, including special education programs, mentor coach services, and the Valiant Viking Character Education program. Students enrolled in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) speak more than 20 different languages.
The school's Parent Teacher Association is active and supports many programs for students, such as chess club, foreign languages and athletic activities.
The school has also received the Board of Education Excellence Awardfrom the Virginia State Board of Education.
Cunningham Park Elementary School is named for William Kingsley Cunningham, a farmer and fruit grower who owned a…More 64-acre piece of land on which he grew crab apples, cherries and Japanese plums, and reportedly was the first to bring the Golden Delicious apple to the area. Two of Cunningham's three sons were employed by Fairfax County public schools, and are credited with organizing inter-school athletic competition.
When William Cunningham died in 1947, his widow sold his land to various organizations, including the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, who sold 10 acres of that farm to the school board to build Cunningham Park Elementary School.
The school educates children from kindergarten through sixth grade, and also has a Head Start program. Kindergarten is a full-day program. Other special features include English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), a gifted and talented program, and School-Aged Child Care (SACC).
In addition to academic programs, the Parent Teacher Association sponsors several extracurricular activities, including Odyssey of the Mind, After School Hoops and GRACE Art.
The school has business partnerships with Whole Foods Market in Vienna and Outback Steakhouse.
