Virginia Girls Lacrosse: Win Puts Madison On Top

Thriller over Stone Bridge puts Warhawks at No.1 in Liberty DIstrict.

In a thrilling and bizarre contest decided in the last few seconds of the game, the visiting Madison High School (8-1, 6-0), escaped with a 12-11 victory over the powerful Stone Bridge Bulldogs (9-3, 4-2). The win keeps the Warhawks undefeated in the Liberty District, making the team poised to take the No.1 seed as it enters the district tournament Friday. Traveling to Loudon County on a cold and drizzly Monday evening, the Warhawks were at a decided disadvantage on Stone Bridge’s muddy, grass field – a surface that was familiar and comfortable territory for the home team Bulldogs. Initially, Madison appeared out of synch on the sloppy field and trailed the Bulldogs 7-5 at halftime. In a hard fought and physical game marked by numerous …

Madison High School team shows red and black pride alongside new Vienna Volunteer Fire Department truck.

To honor the men and women fighting fires in Vienna with the truck, the school's baseball team posed with the engine for the cover photo to their media guide (see picture at right). Like the engine, which residents have reported blazing through the streets, the Warhawks have gotten off to a roaring start in the 2013 season. Resident Nancy Socher reports the varsity team is 14-1 — rebounding from a season-opening loss to 14 have straight victories, "including winning the Mingo Bay Classic Tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC over spring break," she wrote…

The Madison Freshmen Women’s Eight took first in the final, and the Men’s Novice 4 and the Freshmen 8 took first in their heats.  The Men’s Novice 8 took second place in their heat. On Sunday, Madison’s varsity rowers competed in the 5th Manny Flicks of the season, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Scholastic Rowing Association in Philadelphia.  “Manny Flicks” are named after Manuel Flicks, a father who in the 1950s organized the first series of what originally were …

If we feature the accomplishments of a specific team (in this case boys first eight (1V) boat) is it possible to list the names of the atheletes. Always nice to see your name in press as an athelete, and the local community who may know the boys/girls can continue to support and encourage them.   more ›
