Winners of the 11th Congressional District competition will have work displayed in the U.S. Capitol.
Calling all high school artists: Friday is the deadline for U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11th)'s annual High School Art Contest, which offers local students a chance to have their art displayed in the U.S. Capitol. All public, private and home-schooled high school students in Connolly's 11th Congressional District are eligible to enter artwork in the competition, "An Artistic Discovery." Students can drop off their pieces at Connolly's Annandale or Prince William District Offices. Health care, immigration and the economy were hot-button issues at the Asian American Northern Virginia Candidate forum on Friday night that featured political candidates running in Virginia’s congressional and Senate races. The event was hosted by several Virginia Asian-American organizations and focused specifically on issues that affect the Asian-American community. Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-11th), who has received some criticism for not participating in enough debates this election season, was present, but challenger Col. Chris Perkins was absent so that he and his family could prepare for his daughter's wedding. Dear Editor, There have been numerous opportunities for Gerry Connolly to stop or slow the impending sequestration cuts that will result in tens of thousands of layoffs in Northern Virginia and the 11th District. After voting for both versions of the Budget Control Act of 2011, which authorized this sequestration process; Connolly voted against several measures that would lessen the impact of the cuts, including an amendment authored by fellow Virginia Congressman Scott Rigell. Eleventh Congressional District representative will hear constituent concerns in 8 p.m. phone conference
Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-11th) will hold his 15th telephone town hall for residents of Virginia’s 11th Congressional district on Tuesday. In a release from Connolly's office, communication director George Burke said residents who dial into the telephone town halls "have praised the format and the convenience of being able to communicate with their congressmen from the comfort of their homes without having to fight traffic." Burke said since Connolly started the telephone town halls shortly after he took office in January 2009, more than 170,000 district residents have participated in a call with the congressman. Since when is asking some one to provide a ID a barrier to voting. Connolly either you chose not to understand why we need an ID which to me would be amazing since you Congressman or you just do not care why you would need an ID and want to encourage people to falsely vote so they would vote for Democrats.
