More than $380,000 raised in "Kyle's Kamp," a baseball tournament honoring 8-year-old leukemia patient
At this time last year, a few dozen teams from across the D.C. region were taking to fields in Vienna and across Fairfax County to play in the first-ever Kyle's Kamp Wood Bat baseball tournament, in honor of Kyle Hahne, a now-8-year-old diagnosed with leukemia in the fall of 2010. The three-day tournament for Kyle, the son of local baseball coach Rob Hahne and Madison High School teacher Kieran Hahne, raised more than $10,000 in its first run for the Children's National Medical Center for pediatric cancer care through individual and team donation and wood bat, T-shirt and food sales. Most of the teams gave a team tournament donation of anywhere between $75 to $300 in place of a tournament registration fee. What a difference a year can make…

Warhawks can't figure out South County, manage just five hits in 10-0 loss
The further the South County Stallions go in the Northern Region tournament, the better they seem to be playing. On Wednesday, that meant a 10-0 win over Madison High School in the Northern Region semifinals, preserving a perfect 25-0 record. The Stallions had six near-perfect innings on the mound from Tyler Frazier and a 3-for-3, four RBI night from Mike Perez. Frazier struck out nine – all but one swinging – and harmlessly scattered five hits as the Warhawks managed only one runner past first base. He also helped his own cause when he drove in South County’s first run of the night in the top of the first inning. It would prove to be the only offense he needed. “He’s on a roll right now, he’s pitching very well,” said South County …
Advances to Northern Region semi-finals with late-rally win over Yorktown
Despite trailing Yorktown 7-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning on Monday, the Madison High School baseball team knew it wasn't ready to give up yet. And proved it. That inning they scored five runs on six hits -- and later in the game knocked two homeruns -- to defeat the Yorktown Patriots 11-8 in the Northern Region quarterfinals at Lake Braddock High School. “When you work as hard as we do in the off-season you just don’t surrender,” Madison Coach Mark Gjormand. “I told them not to get frustrated if they make a few mistakes, but our team is very resilient. We’ve done this all year.” A big performance for the Warhawks came from senior Eli Facenda. Facenda came in the top of the fifth and pitched three solid innings for Madison, …

Warhawks will play in quarterfinals at Lake Braddock on Monday
A storm may have postponed Madison High School's game against West Springfield on Friday night, but it certainly didn't slow Warhawk Baseball down. The team came back on Saturday to beat the defending state champion West Springfield 10-6. Friday's weather left the game hanging in the bottom of the second inning, with Madison leading 3-2 with no outs. On Saturday, the Warhawks picked up where they left off: with Ben Powers at the plate with a 2-1 count. With the up-the-middle single that followed, Powers launched Madison into a five-run rally, as the Warhawks left the inning leading 8-2. Sophomore pitcher Andy McGuire was a standout on the mound and at the plate. He held West Springfield at bay as the Warhawks increased their lead, …
