Rep. Connolly, Others Urge GSA to Move FBI to Northern Virginia

Lawmakers ask GSA to consider the area, noting that many FBI employees already live in Northern Virginia.

U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11th District), along with Jim Moran (D-8th) and several other lawmakers, sent a letter to the administrator of the General Services Administration urging him to consider Northern Virginia as a possible home for a new FBI headquarters location. Moran and Connolly, whose district includes the Vienna, Oakton and Tysons area, was joined by Reps. Frank Wolf and Rob Wittman as well as Sens. Jim Webb and Mark Warner in signing the letter. Their letter follows GSA’s request for information seeking input on a new location for a consolidated FBI headquarters in the Washington, DC region. Vienna Woman Pleads Guilty to Fraud

Nancy Preston admits to embezzling more than $600,000 from Clyde's Restaurant Group.

A Vienna woman who pleaded guilty Wednesday to embezzling more than $600,000 from Clyde's Restaurant Group now faces 20 years in prison. Nancy Preston, 55, was charged with mail fraud for embezzling $647,547 from Clyde’s Restaurant Group over the course of a decade. Preston worked for the company from 1982 until 2011; between 1992 and September 2011, she served as the corporate controller, a role in which she oversaw the the company's accounting, according to a news release from the FBI.  In her plea agreement, Preston agreed to sign over $258,000 worth of equity-based incentive stock awards and/or options to Clyde's. She also agreed to additional forfeiture of $389,069.  Her sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 12 in the U.S. District Court …

Vienna Men Among 28 Arrested for Honduran Cocaine Ring

Group allegedly smuggled cocaine into Northern Virginia, wired money to South America

A Vienna man allegedly acted as a leader of a cocaine ring that smuggled the drug into Northern Virginia and distributed it across the East Coast, which wired more than $1 million back to suppliers in Honduras over several years. Twenty-eight people were charged with conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine in connection with the case, officials from the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigations announced Wednesday. The charge carries a minimum mandatory of five years in prison and a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison, U.S. Attorney's office spokesman Peter Carr said. Melcy Yalexsy Guevara-Barrera, aka "Pedro" or "Primo," 35, of Vienna, was named in the case as one of four alleged leaders. Genis …

Man Pleads Guilty To Mortgage Rescue Scheme

Former Vienna business owner faces six counts of wire fraud

A Virginia Beach man who ran a mortgage-rescue business out of Vienna pleaded guilty to six counts of wire fraud Tuesday for a scheme in which he collected $3 million in fees from clients to modify their mortgages but failed to follow through. With the guilty plea, Howard R. Shmuckler, 68, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for each count of wire fraud. The plea was accepted by United States District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema in U.S. District Court in Alexandria. Sentencing has been scheduled for June 22.
