A driver of a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Windover Avenue at 6:39 p.m. on March 14 when she allegedly took her eyes off the road to adjust her radio at which time her vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Witnesses told police the driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene of the crash. A citizen witnessed the crash and contacted the police department with a description of the fleeing vehicle. Vienna Police responded to the scene and were able to locate the vehicle involved in the crash. The driver of the vehicle was charged with hit and run and failure to pay full time attention. Police are investigating a domestic disturbance call during which a gun was discharged inside a residence on Cottage Street SW. Officers were called to the home at 8:14 p.m. Jan. 9 after a woman reported her adult brother discharged a handgun inside the residence. During the investigation, police discovered the brother was threatening to harm himself with the weapon and it discharged accidentally. The woman and another brother safely exited the home and officers confronted the man in the front yard. The suspect disregarded officer’s commands and ran back into the home. Officers pursued him into the home and detained him. The suspect was eventually taken to an area medical facility for evaluation and treatment. Police are continuing to …

Vienna Police are looking for the people responsible for a series of mailbox vandalisms late last month. Officers responded to a report of mailbox damage at three separate addresses on Ayrhill Avenue NE at the end of December. It is believed they were damaged sometime between 6 p.m. Dec. 29 and 8:30 a.m. Dec. 30. Police are still investigating the case. -- A person, known to police, called Vienna Police Department at 2:54 p.m. Jan. 5 for non-police related issues. Police are investigating a grand larceny at Chipotle Restaurant. The property manager at the restaurant, in the 200 block of Maple Avenue East, reported someone stole the hydraulic system from an exterior trash compactor between 7 a.m. Nov. 30 and 7 a.m. Dec. 1. The approximate cost to replace the system is $1,500.00. Police are still investigating the case. -- Police are looking for a man that took off without paying his taxi fare. A taxi driver told police picked up a customer at the Vienna Metro Station between 3:40 and 3:46 a.m. Dec. 3 and brought them to Cedar Lane and Park Street SE. A week and a half after a suspicious man was reported watching female students take a class at the Cuppett Performing Arts Studio through a window, an employee of the studio reported a different man had come into the studio to observe girls in the lobby. An employee of Cuppett Performing Arts Studio reported the man entered the studio's lobby at 6:19 p.m. Nov. 16 and began reading a magazine while watching three girls also in the lobby. The man then left the building. Police were called after he left the area and they were unable to locate him. He was described as an older Asian male wearing a puffy coat and is not believed to be the same subject that had been previously reported. A suspicious man was also reported at the studio in June. …

A man was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment last month after threatening to harm himself with a handgun at a Vienna home. A resident reported around 6 p.m. Oct. 31 her adult son was inside her Melody Lane home and was threatening to harm himself using a handgun. The scene and surrounding area was secured by officers. The Fairfax County Police Department’s K-9 unit along with other additional resources were summoned and responded to assist with the situation. A 25-year-old Alexandria woman was arrested last week for attempting to fill a fraudulent prescription at the Vienna Drug Center. Around 4:57 p.m. Oct. 25, an employee reported a woman was in the store at 150 Maple Avenue West, attempting to pass it by staff. Police located the woman and after investigating arrested Shannon Jones, 25, of Alexandria for prescription fraud. After being taken to Vienna Police Montgomery County, Md. Jones was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held on a $1,500 bond. -- A Vienna woman was arrested twice in the same day for driving on a suspended license. Highlights from the Vienna Police Department log, Oct. 14 to Oct.20 ARRESTS A citizen on Melody Lane SE reported around 1 a.m. Sept. 24 she had been assaulted by her boyfriend. She reported that the boyfriend pushed her down and battered her around her chest. Vienna Police obtained warrants for the boyfriend for misdemeanor sexual assault and domestic assault. The boyfriend turned himself in at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center based on the outstanding warrants. Robert Barr, 26, of Vienna, was served the two warrants and held without bond.
