The Madison Girls Varsity Soccer team finished the regular season with a 2 – 0 win Wednesday against the Fairfax High School Rebels. Freshman Lindsey Tyrell scored her first goal of her varsity career in the first half. She was also fouled within the penalty area in the second half and Rachel Moore scored the penalty, and her sixth goal of the season, with a strike to the low right post. The Warhawks ended the season with six wins, four losses and three ties. They play their next game either at TJ or McLean on Monday. Junior midfielder Matt Arndt scored two goals and Junior midfielder Kyle Rowe had a goal and two assists during Tuesday night's boys lacrosse game against South Lakes, but a strong second half from the Seahawks stunned Madison in a penalty-filled game as the Warhawks fell 8-7 at James Madison High School. The loss drops Madison to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the Liberty District. They are now in fifth place in the district with games remaining against co-District leader Stone Bridge, Thomas Jefferson and Fairfax. The Madison Boys Lacrosse Team (1-2) split two games this weekend with a 6-3 loss to Chantilly on Friday night and a 14-13 win over local rival Oakton High School on Saturday night. In the opener against Chantilly, the Warhawks were behind 5-1 at halftime. The second half turned into a tough defensive battle with limited scoring and numerous penalties. Madison held Chantilly to one goal in the second half on an open net late in the game, but could only muster two goals for themselves for the final 6-3 result. Junior Kyle Rowe won 13 faceoffs and added a goal and an assist for the Warhawks. Junior Nick Gabriel and sophomore Brett Simeck each had a goal for Madison. Marshall boys swim defeats Thomas Jefferson, Madison boys basketball falls to McLean
The Madison Girls Basketball team won its fourth consecutive road game Friday night, beating the McLean Highlanders, 58-42. Trailing 15-13 after the first quarter, Madison clamped down on defense to take a narrow 22-19 lead at halftime. The Warhawks found their offensive groove in the third quarter, outscoring the Highlanders 18-11 to take a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter. Madison continued its offensive barrage in the final period to extend its margin of victory. Leading Madison's balanced scoring attack was freshman forward Kelly Koshuta, who scored 15 points. Madison volleyball falls to Woodson
Marshall High School Field Hockey held on to an early lead to beat Oakton High School 3-2 on Monday, improving their record to 8-1. The Statesmen shined in the first half, leading 2-0 going into halftime thanks to goals by juniors Madeleine Lewsen and Emily Sexton, assisted by Maddie O'Beirne and April Reinhart, respectively. Sexton assisted Paige Veoni's goal early in the second half, increasing Marshall's lead to 3-0, when Oakton fought back. James Madison High School shutout W.T.Woodson 24-0 on Saturday to win its home opener and even its record at 1-1. The offense, defense, and special teams all contributed strong performances, but the highlight of the game was the six turnovers caused by the aggressive Warhawk defense. Madison moved the ball steadily in the first half behind the accurate passing of Dan Powers, seven receptions by Tom House, and the power running of Jacob Hall and Grant Hoffman. Nick Hoy scored the first touchdown on a one-yard run up the middle.
