A 'Fantasticks' Show
Vienna Theatre Company performs 50-year old show beginning this weekend.
When she was 16 years old, Susan Devine saw a performance of “The Fantasticks” and fell in love with its story and the music. As an adult, Devine has been involved with directing for years and currently directs all over the DC Metro area. So when she heard that the Vienna Theatre Company was interested in putting on a production of “The Fantasticks,’ she jumped at the chance to direct–especially when they were willing to let her do it her way. “I always thought that I would like to do it my own way as a director,” Devine said. “What I decided to do is to ask the question, ‘What would the playwrights do if they were writing the play today? I saw the show last night and was very surprised that a local theater production could be this good. The voices of the ingenue and her young love were in top form. The secondary characters were very entertaining. Loved the set and lighting and the changes made. Very creative! Very professional.
