Vienna Metro Station, Café Renaissance named to previous lists
Over the years, people across the country have offered their opinions about the "most romantic" spot in Vienna. Café Renaissance once again beat out more than 5 million restaurants this year in Restaurants.com's list of Top 100 Most Romantic restaurants. And in 2011, Craigslist named the Vienna Metro Station the most romantic subway stop in America. But where do Vienna residents go to woo their spouse or date? We want to hear from you. By checking in on social media in February, customers can donate 10 percent of sales to Shepherd's Center of Oakton-Vienna.
February is the month of love — something one local business is trying to spread through a "get social" campaign that will give 10 percent of sales to a local nonprofit. Caffe Amouri owner Michael Amouri launched "Get Social Month" in February as a way to give back to the Shepherd's Center of Oakton-Vienna "to enhance the lives of seniors in Vienna and Oakton." The nonprofit, which serves seniors in Vienna, Oakton, Merrifield, Dunn Loring, Falls Church and Reston, provides a range of services to older residents, from classes and day trips to providing transportation to medical appointments and grocery stores. Kären Rasmussen and Barb Brehm, both longtime Fairfax County residents, attempted to apply for a marriage license at the Fairfax County Courthouse on Valentine's Day.
Annandale residents Kären Rasmussen and Barb Brehm didn't walk into the Fairfax County Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon with high hopes. They knew Virginia law denies same-sex couples the right to marry and, despite the fact the partners have committed themselves to each other for the past 27 years, Valentine's Day proved no exception. Fairfax Circuit Court Clerk John Frey met Rasmussen and Brehm in the lobby of the courthouse and escorted them to a conference room. The women filled out paperwork necessary to obtain a marriage certificate and Frey provided a letter explaining why state law would not permit him to issue one.
