Drop off food donations for Committee for Helping Others from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oakton Giant.
Fairfax County has partnered again this year with the MV Transportation company and local area grocery stores and non-profits to provide food donations for its "Stuff the Bus: Feeding Fairfax Families" campaign. The campaign comes the closest it will get to Vienna on Saturday, when it sets up from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of the Oakton Giant, 2932 Chain Bridge Road. The campaign, which is in its third year, officially kicked off Monday and will run through Feb. 18. Last year, volunteers collected more than 25,000 pounds of food. More than 400 kids served last year through "Christmas Store" at VPC, but organization needs help to make event a reality.
This weekend, for many needy families, the Vienna Presbyterian Church will transform into a Christmas Store, filled with donated toys, bikes, clothes, gift cards for teams and cards loaded with money to use at local grocery stores. The event is one the Committee for Helping Others (CHO) puts together every year. In the beginning, CHO began just giving out meals to families that needed them during the holidays. But the event has grown to include bikes, toys and other Christmas gifts to kids and their families who need them, from Vienna and other parts of Fairfax County. Last year, the program broke records: A total of 419 kids, 80 of whom were teenagers, were given bikes, helmets, toys, gift cards, clothing and food. In all, 125 families …

Saturday event part of effort to connect needy kids with gifts during the holidays
The Committee for Helping Others collected 32 bikes at a Saturday used bike donation drive at Bikes @ Vienna. Combined with another 50 bikes collected and donated to CHO by the Antioch Christian Church, the group will be able to give 82 needy kids a bike of their own this holiday season To read more on the project, click here.

It's around this time of year families often start to notice the clutter in their garages: the extra toys, the boxes from houses past, and especially for families with multiple children, the old stack of outgrown or unused bicycles that haven't been ridden in months (or years). The Committee for Helping Others (CHO), along with local elementary schools, are asking residents to give those extra bikes this holiday season to kids in need through a donation drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Bikes @ Vienna. The Committee for Helping Others brought some early holiday joy to more than 100 needy families last weekend during their annual holiday effort.
