Madison Novice Eight Places Fourth in State

Girls boat rows to strong finish at Ted Phoenix Regatta

The Madison women’s and men’s novice eights posted encouraging performances  on the Occoquan at the 2012 Ted Phoenix Regatta –the state championships for lower boats.     Out of an original field of 15 novice eight boats competing in three heats, Madison Women’s novice eight was one of six boats to advance to the final with a hard-fought second place in Heat 1, finishing just behind Yorktown. In the final, won by Glouster, Mt. Vernon (5:57:21) edged over Madison (5:58:21) for third place; second-place Yorktown (5:56:88) beat Madison by just more than a second.  “The girls have worked so hard all season," Madison Novice Women’s Coach Anne FitzSimons said. Crew: Madison Girls Keep Win Streak Alive

Warhawks race to first in Saturday regatta on the Potomac

Madison High School’s women’s first eight faced its toughest competition of the  season yet in a Saturday meet with some of the area’s top teams, but the boat defeated the National Cathedral School with a time of 5:03 to keep its winning streak alive. Teams from St. Alban’s, National Cathedral School, Yorktown and TC Williams were among those competing Saturday at the Charlie Butt Regatta in Washington, D.C. Racing on the chilly Potomac, the other Warhawk boats also had success: the  Madison women’s second eight (5:09) also beat National Cathedral School. Crew: New Boat One of Five Warhawk Victories

Madison's men's first eight wins in new boat dedicated to volunteer

In a boat christened in the name of a dedicated Warhawk Crew volunteer earlier that day, the Madison High School men’s first eight commandeered the “Glenn  K.  Burger” to a come-from-behind first place victory over Washington-Lee Saturday at the Smokey Jacobs Regatta. The men’s first eight win, in a time of 4:36:2, was just one of five first place finishes for Madison boats at the regatta. All Madison boats placed. The team named its new boat for Glenn K. Burger, a long-term volunteer who has been with the team since his daughter Jessica joined squad in during its second season. Crew: Women's Boats Sweep With Top Finishes

All boats take first, men's boats take first and second in Saturday meet

At Saturday's Darrell Winslow Regatta, featuring teams across Virginia  and Maryland,  the James Madison High School crew team once again demonstrated their command of the water with  ll three women's boats taking first place, and the men's first and second eights placing in first and second place respectively. All three women's teams had open water between their boats and the second place finishers. The men's second eight won first place in a photo finish, where Madison was declared the winner over Bethesda- Chevy Chase and beat rival Oakton for the first time this season. Crew: Strong Showing at Regional Park Regatta

All six Madison varsity boats place in top three

In the second regatta of the season, all six Madison High School varsity boats placed in the top three at Saturday’s Regional Park Regatta on the Occoquan River, with all three women’s boats taking first place.   Repeating its performance during the season-opening regatta as the fastest women’s boat on the water, the women’s first eight finished with a time of 4:55:30. Both the women's second eight (5:41:70) and the women's third eight (5:26:70) finished several seconds ahead of the second place finishers in their finals.   In a very tight men's first eight final, Madison raced to a third place finish with a time of 4:34:95, edged out by first and second place winners, Thomas Jefferson and Oakton, respectively.   In the men's second eight…
