Future of Magruder's Unclear
As rumors spread about grocery store closing, employees and residents are left without answers.
Magruder's Supermarket — the anchor of the Vienna Shopping Center at Courthouse Road and Maple Avenue — could leave Vienna sometime this month. But neither employees or customers seem to know when, or why. Rumors about the store's closing began last week; as days went by, shelves started seeming more and more empty. A store manager who answered the phone Friday said they had heard rumors from customers, but had not been contacted by the DC-area chain's headquarters. An employee who answered the phone Monday said "it was a possibility" the store would close, but a final decision had not been made, and he had no closing date. Not sure Trader Joes would open a store that could significantly cannibalize their Falls Church store...but would great if they did open. Word from some local merchants is that an asian supermarket -- a la H Mart -- will be opening in Vienna in the Magruder's space. more ›
