Vienna Secures $800K in Federal Funds for Sidewalks

Grant to aid Vienna in its Walk to Downtown sidewalks initiative

The Town of Vienna is another step closer to fulfilling its Walk to Downtown initiative with a federal grant to fund the construction of sidewalks leading to its main commercial corridor. The Federal Highway Administration has awarded $800,000 to the Town of Vienna to build sidewalks in the first blocks of side streets off Maple Avenue. Though the town's Department of Public Works does not expect the money to stretch to every side street, it does see it making it a significant dent in the priority list of streets involved in the Walk to Downtown initiative, DPW Director Dennis Johnson said. The latest federal grant joins the $235,000 Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) grant from the Virginia Department of Transportation earmarked for…

A bit strange this. East St. between Maple and Church St. NE already has sidewalks.. both sides. While town crews are busy on Park St. NE slaughtering trees where works manager tells me town is going to lay a new sidewalk where one alreadyexists. Q: Will the town finish re-blacktopping ...repaving...the sidewalk in the 300 block of Church St. NE?? They left it undone last tow years.   more ›

Thanks. I looked at several houses in the Kingsley/Tapawingo area fifteen years ago when we were first looking to move to Vienna. At the time, there were no McMansions there; all the houses were original ranchers and I remember them as having been built in the 1950s. Believe me, the bathrooms are burned into my brain. A number of them have been torn down now, but you would think with so many …   more ›
